Downie’s Cottage is thought to have been the highest working farm in Scotland and is located high on the shoulder of Morrone with breathtaking views over the village of Braemar and the Dee valley in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The cottage was abandoned sometime between the wars, and although the steading was damaged by fire many years ago, the house remained largely as an undisturbed time capsule complete with box beds, old shoes and Victorian Christmas cards. On discovering this gem, Historic Scotland determined it as a building of national importance listing it as Category A, and since then it has been lovingly restored to provide it with a new lease of life for the 21st Century as a comfortable Scottish Tourist Board 5 Star pet-friendly Braemar holiday cottage.
