Downie's Cottage - Fully Restored A-listed Historic Croft House - 5 Star Self Catering Cottage Braemar - Sleeps 2
Downie’s Cottage is thought to have been the highest working farm in Scotland and is located high on the shoulder of Morrone with breathtaking views over the village of Braemar and the Dee valley in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The property was abandoned sometime between the wars, and although the steading was damaged by fire many years ago, the house remained largely as an undisturbed time capsule complete with box beds, old shoes and Victorian Christmas cards. On discovering this gem, Historic Scotland determined it as a building of national importance listing it as Category A, and since then it has been lovingly restored to provide it with a new lease of life for the 21st Century as a comfortable Scottish Tourist Board 5 Star holiday cottage.
We take your safety and comfort very seriously at Downie’s Cottage and have been working very hard to implement the Government Guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay.
We have undertaken a full risk assessment of the cottage, outbuildings, car and grounds and compiled a check list for cleaning and disinfection. Both can be requested in advance but copies will be in the cottage for your information.
We hope that the world returns to normal in the not too distant future but in the meantime Downie’s Cottage remains the tranquil idyll it has always been and we really hope you enjoy your stay
Please note that starting April 2021 we are building a new house within the 3 acres of Downie's Croft. The construction site is 50 metres away on the far side of the steading and will be fenced off and screened, but there may be some disturbance during working hours. As a result we are offering a 10% discount on all bookings during 2021. For a plan illustrating the location of the new house click here.
